The annual South African Festival of Motoring is the biggest of its kind on the continent and is around the corner set to return for its fourth year at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. The event takes place from 22 to 25 August 2019 and is set to offer car fans octane fuelled opportunities to interact directly with their favourite manufacturers.
Our Assistant Editor will be attending a day early on the 21st for the media day and is expected to witness the reveal of the three new key additions to the Audi line-up, four special Volkswagen models and much much more.
As part of Audi South Africa’s local plans, visitors at the 2019 Festival of Motoring will be the first to be introduced to Audi A1, Q3 as well as the long-awaited A7. The Audi A1 and Q3 will officially hit local showrooms from early September 2019. While the Audi A7 Sportback to follow in Q4 2019Additionally the brand’s first fully-electric vehicle the Audi e-tron will make its South African debut. Audi RS models will be ready to hit the Kyalami race track too with the Audi R8, RS 5 Sportback, RS 4 Avant and RS 3 range available for booked test drives. Other exciting new models, like the newly launched Audi Q8 and recently facelifted Audi TTS coupé, will be exhibited too.
Volkswagen will likewise be revealing a fleet of fresh metal to South Africa with the debut of the much anticipated T-Cross SUV. This record-breaking ID.R electric racer will be on display for the enthusiasts. The vehicle has made history by breaking significant records at the formidable Pikes Peak hill climb, the Nürburgring-Nordschliefe as well as the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb.
The VW’s on display include the Polo Vivo Sound Edition, a locally-inspired concept car, while the track can be experienced in the 228 kW Golf R, Touareg Black Style, Arteon, Tiguan Allspace and Polo Vivo GT.
For the off-road lovers, the soon-to-be-launched Amarok Canyon special edition will also be on display. VW commercial will be giving visitors a taste of the capabilities of the Amarok V6 on a custom-made 4×4 obstacle course. The Amarok will be taking festival-goers around the dirt track, and for future bundu-bashers, a mini Amarok circular track will be available to keep the little ones entertained.
